INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS TO WATCH FOR IN 2024

As we step into the new year the design landscape is evolving beyond aesthetics, and becoming a reflection of our ever-changing needs and aspirations. In a post-covid world, we’re finding that balance between making sustainable choices, and treating ourselves to some everyday indulgences. Interior design is all about balancing style and comfort, making our spaces not just pretty but also practical. Let’s dive into 5 of the trends that we expect to see in the months ahead!

QUIET LUXURY

Not just a fashion trend, ‘Quiet Luxury’ is emerging as the interior design aesthetic for 2024! Think elevated everyday living – seamlessly incorporating a touch of opulence into an understated, relaxed space. “It’s about adding in those little touches that feel a bit fancier without compromising the overall effortless and clean feel of the space” (Shea McGee, Studio McGee).

EARTH TONES

2023 saw neutrals replace gray tones, and now we’re taking it a step further and really embracing warm, earthy tones. Shades of brown, caramel, and even terracotta are on the rise and considered the ‘new neutrals’ among designers. We’re going for “less vibrancy and more richness” (Neal Beckstedt, Neal Beckstedt Studio).

NATURAL WOOD

For this trend we can thank the sustainability movement, which encourages a shift towards more natural materials and a reduction in waste. “In 2024, there will be a boom for paint stripping companies, as we’re seeing more and more clients want to expose their original wood millwork. In the same vein, new-build clients are opting for rich woods like walnut, maple and mahogany over paint-grade millwork” (Jeanne Barber, Camden Grace Interiors).

STATEMENT TILES

We’re starting to see a lot of designers and homeowners take a more statement approach to floor and wall tiles. “Using a statement or accent tile in a shower can help to break up the monotony, especially as the size of showers and wet areas continue to grow larger and larger” (Rachel Atkins, Dwellify).

ARTISAN ACCENTS

Clean-cut perfection is making way for human touch with a focus on individuality, authenticity, and a sort of celebration of imperfection. Think anything handmade, heirloom, antique, or vintage. “Whether it’s ceramic tile or hand-carved wood furniture or hand blown glass, human irregularity is soothing” (Oliver Furth, Oliver M. Furth, Design and Decoration).

2024 invites us to redefine our living spaces, giving a nod to the past while looking ahead to the future. The ever-evolving nature of our homes is just another reason that I love real estate! Cheers to inspired interiors, and to making our living spaces uniquely ours.
